About the Steel
1.4122 steel is a martensitic stainless steel offering a good balance of hardness, corrosion resistance, and toughness. It provides higher strength than standard 420 due to molybdenum addition, while retaining moderate ductility. In the hardened and tempered condition, it achieves high wear resistance with stable mechanical properties. However, its corrosion resistance is lower than austenitic grades, making it best suited for mildly aggressive environments. It also responds well to heat treatment, allowing precise control over hardness and mechanical performance.
Applications
-
Industrial Components
Used in shafts, valves, and pump parts requiring strength and corrosion resistance.
-
Cutlery & Tools
Preferred for knives, scissors, and surgical instruments for sharpness retention.
-
Automotive Industry
Applied in engine components, bearings, and wear parts.
-
Chemical Equipment
Used in moderately corrosive environments where durability is required.
-
Pump & Valve Parts
Applied in housings, seats, and spindles exposed to moderate corrosion and pressure.
