About the Steel
1.2080 / D3 Tool Steel is a high-carbon, high-chromium cold work tool steel known for its exceptional wear resistance and high surface hardness after heat treatment. It offers good dimensional stability and edge retention, making it ideal for tooling that requires minimal deformation under high abrasion. However, D3 is best suited for low-impact applications due to its relatively low toughness. It responds well to both air and oil hardening, allowing flexible heat treatment options with limited distortion.
Applications
-
Wear-Resistant Tooling
Performs well in tools subjected to continuous abrasion.
-
Forming & Drawing Tools
Maintains sharp edges in abrasive forming processes.
-
Cold Rolling Rolls
Suitable for rolling non-ferrous and light metal sections.
-
Blanking & Punching Dies
Ideal for high-wear, low-impact cold work operations.
-
Wear-Resistant Tooling
Performs well in tools subjected to continuous abrasion.
