About the Steel
1.2379 / D2 Tool Steel is a high-carbon, high-chromium cold work tool steel known for its exceptional wear resistance and hardness. It exhibits excellent dimensional stability during heat treatment, making it ideal for precision tooling. While not as tough as shock-resistant grades, it offers good compressive strength and can handle high-stress applications. Its air-hardening property ensures minimal distortion, and its high chromium content provides moderate corrosion resistance, making it a reliable choice for long-lasting tooling in abrasive environments.
Applications
-
Blanking & Punching Dies
Ideal for high-wear operations with minimal deformation.
-
Forming & Bending Tools
Maintains edge integrity under repeated stress.
-
Thread Rolling & Drawing Dies
Maintains precise dimensions during production.
-
Cold Extrusion Dies
Withstands high pressure and abrasive wear.
-
Shear Blades & Slitters
Excellent for cutting abrasive materials like paper, plastics, and metals.
