About the Steel
SS422 stainless steel is a martensitic stainless grade designed for high strength, hardness, and moderate corrosion resistance, especially in elevated temperature environments. Its composition, including added molybdenum and vanadium, improves creep resistance, wear performance, and mechanical stability at high temperatures. SS422 responds well to heat treatment, allowing it to achieve a combination of high tensile strength and hardness. However, like other martensitic stainless steels, its corrosion resistance is lower than austenitic grades, and toughness decreases as hardness increases. It is commonly used in turbine blades, aerospace components, and high-stress industrial parts.
Applications
-
Turbine Blades & Rotors
Used in steam and gas turbines for high-temperature performance.
-
Pump & Valve Parts
Ideal for shafts, spindles, and seats exposed to water and mild chemicals.
-
