About the Steel
SS440C stainless steel is a high-carbon martensitic grade known for its exceptional hardness and wear resistance after heat treatment. It offers moderate corrosion resistance, making it suitable for applications exposed to mild corrosive environments. While it provides the highest strength among stainless steels, its toughness is lower compared to austenitic grades. SS440C is widely used in precision components, bearings, surgical tools, and cutting instruments where hardness and durability are critical.
Applications
-
Cutlery & Surgical Instruments
Used in knives, scalpels, and precision blades requiring sharpness and durability.
-
Bearings & Valves
Applied in high-load bearing surfaces and valve components for wear resistance.
-
Aerospace & Automotive
Utilized in critical parts like ball bearings, shafts, and engine components.
-
Industrial Tools & Dies
Preferred for cutting tools, gauges, and dies requiring high hardness.
-
Measuring Instruments
Used in precision tools where dimensional stability and strength are essential.
